These days we talk a lot about antibiotic drugs. So what do antibiotics represent? Antibiotics are chemicals derived from microorganisms and destined to kill bacteria or slow down their reproduction. The first antibiotic medical product was produced in 1928 by Alexander Fleming, and its production marked a new phase in the history of medicine. These medicines are extensively used in the contemporary medicine. Doctors prescribe antibiotic medications to the patients with infections caused by bacteria. These drugs aren't effective against the majority of virus infections. That is why your physician will not always prescribe antibiotic medical products when you suffer from an infection. There are numerous classifications of antibiotics. The most common division is "bactericidal" medications (their action is founded on killing bacteria) and "bacteriostatic" ones (they work by preventing the reproduction of bacteria). Furthermore, different antibiotic medications are different in use. Some of them are effective against one type of bacteria (also known as narrow-spectrum antibiotic drugs, while others can fight a wide variety of infections (these ones are known as broad-spectrum antibiotic drugs). Note that antibiotic is a strong medication and should be taken only in accordance with the doctor's prescription. Do not think that the medical product that had an impact on your friend will be effective for you. Most probably it will not bring positive results, it may even do much harm. You should realize that antibiotics have side-actions so forget about self-treatment. Your doctor knows better what antibiotic medicine and for what period of time you should use it. Despite high importance of antibiotic medicines in contemporary medicine you should remember that they are medical products and have certain side effects. Although antibiotic medicines cause serious side-effects quite rarely, yet such problems as vomiting and diarrhea will scarcely please anyone. You should also tell your physician about all the allergies you have or used to have because some antibiotic drugs may provoke allergic reaction such as skin rash, itching or face swelling. If you notice that the application of the antibiotic medicine caused some unusual reaction, stop its use and see your physician asap. Stay in good health and remember that your health is in your hands.
