| Nowadays we hear a lot about generic medical products, or generics as they are generally called. What do they represent? Generic medical products are a range of medical products that are manufactured and sold with no brand name or patent, but at the same time they are identical to their brand-name analogues. They are reputed to be resembling to patented drugs in composition, safety, dosage, efficiency and method of use. What is different in these two kinds of drugs is that patented products' cost is much higher. According to the statistics, generic medical products cost seventy per cent less than their equivalents approved by the FDA.
Brand-name medicines are commonly patented what means that their producers are considered to be the innovators of the medicines and the only manufacturer of this type of drugs for 20 years. In this way, a corporation-inventor has an opportunity to cover all the charges on the creation of the medical product because they have exclusive rights to production and selling of the drug. But after the 20 year period of time other firms get an opportunity to manufacture and sell generic variants of the patented medicines. Like it has already been mentioned, generic medications are demonstrably cheaper than FDA-approved ones, and there are a certain number of reasons for that. Firstly, they don't need to spend money and resources for the investigations and patent fees. Secondly, to win a competition they have to decrease prices because most of the people would prefer branded medical products to generic ones in case the prices were the same. That's why the producers of generic medical products try to sell their production at the lowest price possible.
It is understandable that the majority of people prefer cheaper medicines rather than more expensive ones, but still they worry about the quality. We wouldn't recommend to purchase the medical products without FDA approval, as nobody can answer for their safety and effectiveness. But the generic versions of well-known medical products that have passed tests of Food and Drug Administration are completely identical to their brand-name analogues. Otherwise the FDA would never approve them.
Generic medicines are nowadays widely represented in web pharmacies. Buying a medical product from web pharmacy may become a bargain, or a waste of money depending on what pharmacy you select. That's why before obtaining a medication you should ascertain that the pharmacy is reliable. Read consumers' reviews, consult your friends. When it comes to drugs keep in mind that money doesn't have the same value as your health. |
